Cornell’s latest 2026 Sustainability Report Card highlights continued leadership in campus sustainability through the AASHE STARS framework (Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System). STARS is a comprehensive benchmarking and reporting system used by higher education institutions to measure sustainability performance and drive continuous improvement.

Platinum Rating – 7th Consecutive Year

Cornell remains the only institution worldwide to earn a STARS Platinum rating seven times and as of Spring 2026, only 18 institutions in the world hold a Platinum Rating.

This distinction reflects top-tier performance across academics, operations, and engagement, as well as a sustained commitment to high-impact sustainability strategies.

Why We Report

  • Guides action: Supports data-informed decision making and prioritization
  • Ensures transparency: Provides publicly shared, verified sustainability data
  • Measures progress: Identifies strengths and opportunities for continuous improvement

Note: STARS reports are published in the spring and use data from the previous fiscal year or most recent data available within at least three years.
